My courses are suitable for learners of all levels, from complete beginners, who don't yet have a single word of Irish, to more advanced speakers who are able to read Irish without too much difficulty and are able to enjoy TV and radio programmes in Irish.

Yes, my courses cater to learners of all levels.

After my Beginner Irish course you will be able to hold a basic conversation in Irish; but, more importantly, you will have a deep understanding of the structure of the language, setting a really solid foundation for future learning.

The Beyond Beginner courses involve lots of vocabulary building and speaking practice. The practice conversations have been carefully designed to build progressively one after the other, so that important aspects of the language are taught, through the use of the practice conversations, in a progressive and systematic way.

The Learning Irish Through Literature courses are a fantastic way to boost vocabulary and listening comprehension, and contain audio extracts from carefully selected and entertaining pieces of literature. Enjoy the best of Irish literature while learning Irish at the same time.

The Present Tense course is a fully self-study course, and is designed to impart a comprehensive understanding of how to use all verbs in Irish in the present tense. The teaching is done through the use of short entertaining recorded conversations, which use lots of everyday language and useful phrases.

All About Irish offers a range of courses, from courses which are entirely self-study; to courses which include a weekly live class online in a small group of learners at the same level.

Courses which include live classes delivered via zoom also include self-study online content to use outside of class time. In the live class there is a strong emphasis on spoken Irish and correct pronunciation.

The self-study online content comprises a combination of short video lessons, interactive exercises, audio recordings and quizzes. There is also a strong emphasis on spoken practice and conversation through the use of recorded audio conversations and simple online speaking practices.

The duration of the courses will vary depending on the level and content. Typically, an All About Irish course takes around 8-12 weeks to complete.

However, once the live component of the course is over you will still have access to the online content for some time after the course for the purpose of review and consolidation.

Classes are for adults only, so all students must be over 18.

Apart from this age restriction there are no prerequisites for taking my courses. I welcome anyone who wants to learn to speak the Irish language to come along.

If you are taking a course with live classes on Zoom, all that is required is that you can log in to zoom at the appropriate time.

Otherwise, once you have a good internet connection, you can enjoy the online content whenever you like. You can use the content on any device, and there is a free downloadable app also, if you had rather use your phone.

From time to time courses are offered at discounted prices, and these are advertised by email. If you would like to be notified of any such discounts make sure to subscribe to the website here.

Most courses are offered with two options:

Live Option: Attend a live one hour class each week for 8 weeks. Between classes you will have access to online content to review and consolidate the material covered in the weekly class.

Self-Study Option: If your schedule does not allow you to attend a class each week, choose the self-study option instead. This option is not entirely self-study however, as there are 2 live classes included in the price - one in week 4, and one in week 8. These classes are optional, but are a great way to ask questions and to meet other students also taking the self-study course.

Yes, I am available to answer any questions throughout the duration of the course. Ask questions in the live class; or via the online class forum; or send me an email directly.

I speak Connacht Irish, and the focus in class tends to be on Connacht Irish for that reason. Audio recordings contained in the courses are done by myself, and a native Irish speaker from the Connemara Gaeltacht. 

All written content is in standard Irish; and the major differences between the dialects are always pointed out as they arise in a course.

The structure of the language is the same regardless of dialect, and even if you wish to ultimately focus on Ulster or Munster Irish you will still gain a lot from an All About Irish course. 

If you take a course with All About Irish you will also get recommendations for excellent free Irish language resources. I will direct you towards the best tv programmes, films, radio, online content and books in Irish - at the appropriate level for you.

Yes, speaking conversational Irish is one of the best ways to learn Irish! Students will have the opportunity to practice speaking Irish in the live classes. 

Many students remain in touch after the course has ended in order to meet online and continue to speak Irish with each other.
